Is Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) Equal to Mean Time of Life for Unrepairable Systems?

چکیده

Abstract One of the most important reliability parameters is mean time to failure (MTTF). It widely accepted that MTTF equal life E T . This article shows this not necessarily true. Although for commonly used statistical distributions (such as exponential, Gaussian, chi-square, Fisher-Tippett distributions) values and are equal, case log-normal distribution. Similarity, some less Breit-Wigner distribution) may also require calculation adjustments resulting from ≠ Ignoring discrepancy, an erroneous value can be obtained.

Cold standby redundancy optimization for nonrepairable series-parallel systems: Erlang time to failure distribution

In modeling a cold standby redundancy allocation problem (RAP) with imperfect switching mechanism, deriving a closed form version of a system reliability is too difficult. A convenient lower bound on system reliability is proposed and this approximation is widely used as a part of objective function for a system reliability maximization problem in the literature. Considering this lower bound do...

Is There any Mean to Postpone The Menopausal Ovarian Senescence?

The ovarian reserve (OR) gradually decreases throughout the female fertile life. This continuous depletion in OR is irreversible. This occurs through a programmed cell death known apoptosis. Some factors hasten such depletion such as chemo- and radiotherapy. Others have been investigated in trials to preserve the OR including gonadotropins, cytokines, growth hormones, nitric oxide and reorganiz...

On Derivative Estimation of the Mean Time to Failure in Simulations of Highly Reliable Markovian Systems

The mean time to failure (MTTF) of a Markovian system can be expressed as a ratio of two expectations. For highly reliable Markovian systems, the resulting ratio formula consists of one expectation that cannot be estimated with bounded relative error when using standard simulation, while the other, which we call a non-rare expectation, can be estimated with bounded relative error. We show that ...

A New Branch-and-Bound for the Problem of Mean Completion Time for the Single Machine with Release Time

Preemptively scheduling a set of independent jobs with release time on one processor is a historical problem. In this paper, the same problem has been considered in which objective is to minimize the mean flow time. To prepare a perfect branch-and-bound, some optimality conditions have been represented and they have been compared with the optimality conditions which have been proposed before. O...
